Den of Eve is a living library of practical skills for growing food, preserving a harvest, preparing wisely, healing naturally, and building a more capable life. This page is here to help you find your footing and take the first real step.
Where to Begin
Three Steps To Begin
Read a Field Guide
Open the Herbarium and choose one plant that interests you. Every entry walks through how to grow it, harvest it, and use it, so you finish with something you can actually do.
Follow a Root
Grow, Preserve, Prepare, Heal, or Thrive: find the root that matches where you are right now, whether that is planting your first seed or learning to preserve a harvest you already have.
Return With the Seasons
The Living Library changes as the year turns. Come back each season for guidance timed to what actually needs doing in your garden and pantry right now.
What Is Den of Eve?
Den of Eve is a living library of practical knowledge for growing food, preserving a harvest, preparing wisely, healing naturally, and building a life that feels rooted rather than rushed. It is built the way a well-kept reference collection should be: organized by subject and by season, written so a beginner can follow it and a lifelong gardener can still learn something new from it.
This page exists for one reason: to help you find your footing. Whether you arrived curious about a single plant or ready to rebuild a whole set of skills, the path forward is the same. Start with one small, real step, and let the rest follow.
How the Living Library Works
Everything Den of Eve publishes lives inside what we call the Living Library, a growing collection made up of the Herbarium, a Garden Library, a Pantry Library, a Seasonal Almanac, and a Recipe Collection. Rather than a feed of articles sorted by date, it is organized the way a reference book is organized: by subject, so a question about drying calendula petals or planting chamomile leads you to an answer built to last, not a post that scrolls away and disappears.
The Herbarium sits at the center of it. Every plant profile follows the same structure: a botanical plate, a growing guide, a seasonal calendar, and a clear account of what is documented history, what is traditional practice, and what modern research actually supports. You can trust one entry the same way you can trust all of them.
What the Five Roots Are
Everything we teach grows from five roots: Grow, Preserve, Prepare, Heal, and Thrive. Grow carries a skill from seed to harvest. Preserve carries a harvest into the pantry. Prepare carries a full pantry toward genuine resilience. Heal carries the earth’s wisdom into everyday remedies. Thrive carries all of it into a life, and a legacy, worth passing on.
The Five Roots are not categories to sort content into. They are directions you can walk in, at whatever pace suits the season you are actually in.
What to Read First
If you only read one thing today, start with a single Field Guide in the Herbarium. Pick a plant you already have a reason to care about: one growing in your yard, one you have wondered about buying dried at the store, or one you keep meaning to plant. Calendula and Chamomile are both written with a first-time reader in mind. Read it start to finish. You will come away with a real, usable skill rather than a list of facts to forget by tomorrow.
What to Explore Next
Once you have read a Field Guide or two, look at the season you are actually standing in. The Spring Guide is the first entry in what will grow into a full Seasonal Almanac, telling you what needs doing right now in a garden or a pantry, so the next thing you learn is also the next thing you can use.
